Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail

About

A 109-mile mostly paved cycling and walking route around Lake Okeechobee, the trail follows the 35-foot-tall Herbert Hoover Dike with spectacular panoramic views of Florida's second-largest lake. Built for flood control, the elevated dike offers unique perspectives for photographers and birders across vast open waters on the east side and shallow marshes on the west. The full loop is a destination for serious century riders, but kids can enjoy shorter segments like the 3.8-mile section from Okeechobee to Okee-Tantie or the 8.6-mile stretch along the north shoreline. Free to access with restrooms at community parks along the route, and bicycles are welcome. Bring bug spray for sunset visits when mosquitoes emerge from the marshes.
